map of borders and the history of the European Union. Each artwork corresponds to a specific member country, and the tangled lines represent the length of the borders in scale. The black shapes signify the neighboring countries.&nbsp; The artworks are arranged chronologically based on the European Union's history. Therefore, the pieces start from the Treaty of Rome's effective date, January 1, 1958, which is generally considered the birthdate of the European Union. The first six founding countries, including France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany, agreed on a common market, laying the foundation for the EU. Later, Denmark, Ireland, and the United Kingdom joined in 1973, followed by Greece in 1981. In 1986, Spain and Portugal joined, and Austria, Sweden, and Finland joined the EU in 1995. Almost a decade later, in 2004, 10 new members joined the EU, including Cyprus, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, and Malta. Bulgaria and Romania joined in 2007, and Croatia joined in 2013. The 9th piece is missing, which refers to the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union in January 2020, after being a member state for 47 years. &nbsp;The European Union currently faces The map in the foreground is based on the city of Tainan, often called the Phoenix city. The work focuses on the 43-kilometer part of the Iron Curtain that consisted of two concrete walls located 160 meters apart. In some sections, e.g., in Czechoslovakia, the border strip was wide up to hundreds of meters. The delimitation of this area led to the accidental creation of nature reserves. Every day, approximately a million soldiers patrol the borders on both sides of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Stones embedded in the fence were a specific safety system. Painted in white and red, they formed a visible, unbroken line on the grid. The surprising result of the survey was the discovery of the so-called third nation. People living along the border feel more connected with each other than with the citizens of their own countries. The wall-building project initiated by the United States former president was perceived as a symbol of segregation and discrimination. The flag depicts the infrastructure spaces related to border crossings, travel, and border protection. The structures presented on the map are both military and civil, such as airports, camps, and military bases. The map is made in a hand-printing technique on muslin. The borderlines are hand embroidered on fabric with red stitching. The Knot has been based on the border of Poland on a scale of 1:160000. The project takes a form of a soft sculpture tangled up in a knot referencing the complex history of the Polish borders and an increasingly harsh, anti-immigration sentiment. The issue of immigration has become the subject of a heated political debate—the intertwined lines of the border reference the proverbial Gordian Knot. Dreaming of the world without borders is now challenged by the overflow of nationalistic attitudes.
